STEMS is a hybrid migrating arts festival where performing arts and visual arts meet.
It is a festival focusing on emerging forms within a new generation of creators, spanning the north and the south of Europe, based on cultural exchange, residencies, performances and workshops.
The aim of the festival is to create a space where new professional creators can share their work, in the form of dance performances, art exhibitions, installations, video art, performance art and workshops.
The common thread that connects all the artists involved in this project is butoh. Artists from different disciplines have come into contact with butoh, in particular through the Barcelona in Butoh Festival organised by Rosanna Barra between 1997 and 2014, and have been integrating their experiences of butoh into their work.
Although the origins of butoh lie in Japan, the experience of butoh here in Barcelona has its own particular characteristics and has been creating its own particular forms. We are interested in gathering the 'stems' that have grown up out of this common fertile ground and sharing the experience of butoh from this specific context with the experiences of artists from other creative and cultural contexts.
Specifically, we would like to create an exchange between north and south, beginning with Norway and Barcelona. The idea is to gradually expand to other countries, both in the north and the south of Europe (UK, Italy), and further south (Latin America).

STEMS es un festival de arte hÃbrido y migratorio en el cual artes escénicos y visuales se encuentran.
Es un festival enfocado en formas emergentes dentro de una nueva generación de creadores, englobando el norte y el sur de Europa, basado en intercambio cultural, residencias, presentaciones y talleres.
El objetivo del festival es crear un espacio dónde los nuevos creadores profesionales pueden compartir su trabajo en un contexto internacional, en la forma de presentaciones de danza, exposiciones de arte, instalaciones, performances y talleres.
El hilo conductor que une a todos los artistas involucrados en este proyecto es el butoh. Artistas de diferentes disciplinas han entrado en contacto con el butoh, en especial a través del festival Barcelona en Butoh, organizado por Rosanna Barra entre 1997 y 2014, y han estado integrando sus experiencias del butoh en su trabajo.
Está claro que la danza butoh tiene sus raÃces en Japón pero la experiencia del butoh aquà en Europa tiene sus propias caracterÃsticas y ha estado creando sus formas particulares. Nos interesa reunir a estos 'tallos' que han salido de una tierra fertil común y compartir la experiencia de creacion en este contexto con las experiencias de artistas de otros contextos creativos y culturales.
En concreto, nos gustarÃa generar un intercambio entre el norte y el sur, empezando con Noruega y Cataluña. La segunda edición del festival tendrá lugar en Oslo en octubre. La idea es expandir después a otros paÃses, en el norte y el sur de Europa (Reino Unido, Italia), y más al sur a América Latina.
